A mother has spoken of her fears for her three-year-old son after an exploratory operation to see if the cancer may have returned was postponed.
Shelley Warrent (28) said her son Oscar is “in a lot of pain right now”.
Oscar was diagnosed in November 2021 with rhabdomyosarcoma – a cancer that affects the soft tissues around the body. Although he was later declared cancer-free, he required periodic examinations every three months and an operation to replace his catheter.
He was due to undergo exploratory surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday after an MRI in March raised concerns that his cancer may have returned.
But the procedure was canceled due to the doctors’ strike and was postponed by more than two weeks to April 27.

Mother Shelley Warrent, 28, from Norwich, said her son Oscar was in a lot of pain at the moment.
Ms Warrent, from Norwich, said the care her three-year-old son received was “amazing” but added: “I raised concerns about delaying the operation because if it is cancer it will be given more time to deteriorate.”
The mother-of-four, who also has two older sons and a daughter, said: “Oscar is in a lot of pain now and not sleeping.”
While the family hope the check – which involves inserting a camera into his bladder – will show his cancer has not returned, they are still very worried and Ms Warrent said: ‘No one can know for sure until this operation and cameras not completed.” finish.

However, she pointed out: “While this is very worrying for us, I cannot blame the doctors and nurses.
“They are amazing and without them my little boy might not be here today.”
Great Ormond Street Hospital said: “We are on as many shifts as we can in extraordinary times.
“We are sorry for the patients and their families who are affected.
“Our team of specialists carefully reviewed Oscar’s medical records before deciding to reschedule this appointment.”
