Shazam! star Zechariah Levi is now sharing his thoughts on the recent drama surrounding the decisions made by James Gunn and Peter Safran for DC Studios. Many fans have lashed out at Gunn regarding some of the decisions he’s made so far, the most important one involved Henry Cavill and the fact that he won’t be returning to play Superman.

The backlash became so severe that Gunn felt he had to address the “tuttarian and impolite” things being said to them and added that “disrespectful protest will never, ever affect our actions.” There’s also speculation that many of the other DC characters will be recast, but we have no idea what they’re actually doing.

The only thing we know for sure right now is that Gunn is writing a new Superman movie, their direction is inspired by classic DC animation shows, they’re developing some Elseworlds projects, and Batman will be a big part of the new DC Cinematic. Universe. they are building.

Now Levi is coming to Gunn and Safran’s defense and encouraging DC fans to give the new CEOs “time to do something special.” He said:

“You have no idea of the reasoning behind any of the decisions being made. The amount of conjecture, rumors, drama, and nonsense that keeps swirling out there on Instagram and Twitter is ridiculous. It’s incredibly ridiculous. So I’d say just be patient and give them some space and some time to really try and do something special. And I think something DC deserves to have, and something that [Zack] Snyder tried to do that and it just didn’t materialize, you guys.

He went on to say that Gunn and Safran “don’t make decisions just because they like or dislike someone. They’re making decisions based on what’s best for Warner Bros., DC, the entire studio and entity, and trying to make as many fans, as many audiences happy as possible. He continued:

“If you’re out there and you really like what’s come before, you can do it, that’s fine. But realize that there are a lot of people who don’t like these things, and we should always try to tap into as many audiences as possible, make as many people happy as possible. That’s what we’re all about in entertainment, and that’s what I think Peter and James are trying to do. And it’s not an easy position, they’ve been given all these things that were already very much in conflict. So guys, fuck, give them a break. Take it easy. Take a breath. It’s the holidays, for goodness sake. Go enjoy your holidays, give them some time to enjoy their holidays and see what happens on the other side.

I’m excited to see what Gunn and Safran bring. I’m a huge fan of Gunn’s storytelling especially with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies and I really hope he brings that kind of greatness to the DC cinematic universe.

While I appreciate what Levi is trying to do, fans will be fans and they won’t change. Many of them will continue to rage and spew hate…until they see the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, at which point they’ll change their tune and start talking about how awesome the new Superman movie is going to be. It’s just how things usually go with stuff like this.
