There is a new four-part RoboCop upcoming documentary series titled RoboDoc – the creation of RoboCop and Cinedigm got the North American rights. The series will launch on Cinedigm’s horror streaming service Screambox and then onto digital platforms early next year.
RoboDoc – the creation of RoboCop has been in development for over six years and will feature interviews with cast and crew members, which includes Peter Weller, Diana Robin, Ronny Cox, Nancy Allen, Wise Rayand director Paul Verhoeven.
The series will take a super deep dive into the story behind the creation of the franchise, which is sure to be fascinating. The documentary is a fan-funded project, produced by Gary Smart and directed by Chris Griffiths and Eastwood Allen, who previously worked on Pennywise: The Story of IT.
Brad Miska, chief executive officer of Bloody Disgusting, which powers Screambox, said in a statement: “RoboCop is not just a tech icon, but a film that pushed the boundaries with its practical effects and overly violent gore. Much of what we see on screen today can be attributed to the innovative minds of the 70s and 80s. We are thrilled that fans will finally get to see the story on Screambox next year.”
RoboCop was said to be partly inspired by the work of writer Edward Neumeier in the Blade Runner art department. RoboCop’s awesome design was created by makeup effects artist Rob Bottin (The thing, Total recall).
Co-director Eastwood Allen said, “We’ve created something together to incorporate visuals and sound in an effort to immerse viewers in the world of 80s cinema and offer something completely unique to the ‘making of’ format.”
Co-director Chris Griffiths he added, “As a RoboCop fan for the past 30 years, this project has been a labor of love for me and I can’t wait to share this unique project with fans, especially those who have stood by us all these years. . ”
In the original film “a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, the evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company brings street cop Alex Murphy (Weller) into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) so they can use his body to support their prototype cyborg. RoboCop not tested. But when RoboCop learns of the company’s nefarious plans, he turns against his masters.
