episode 7 of yellow stone Season five opens with young Rip and Rowdy alone at the ranch. Rowdy starts talking about Beth inappropriately and taunts Rip about Beth. Rip finally reaches his limit with Rowdy and punches are thrown. “You never say her name!” Rip yells at Rowdy.
After a fight, Rip wins this bare knuckle fight. But then Rowdy takes out a knife. Rip gains the upper hand and repeatedly hits Rowdy with a rock. He calls Rowdy a “coward” and threatens to shoot him the next time he does something like that. Later, Rowdy starts throwing up. He says he’s dizzy. “I’m really hurt,” Rowdy mutters.
Rowdy thinks he needs to go to the hospital. He tears leaves to ask for help. Before Rip leaves, Rowdy says to tell John that he fell off his horse or he might be in trouble. Rip runs to the Duttons’ house and doesn’t lie to John. He tells John that Rowdy was saying inappropriate things about Beth.

John and Rip go looking for Rowdy. By the time they get there, Rowdy is dead. John wishes Rip lied to him from the start. John warns young Rip that he must lie now or go to prison. John agrees to help Rip, but he has to stay on this ranch forever. Rip will have to remain steadfastly loyal to the ranch, no questions asked. Rip quickly agrees. This ranch is the only family he has.
In the present day, Jamie explains his entire life story to Sarah. “My father hates me. He hates me. He hates me for becoming exactly what he asked me to become. No, he made me be,” Jamie says. All she wanted was John’s approval and appreciation for his sacrifice. He’s jealous of you, Jamie. And he’s afraid of you,” Sarah tells Jamie , saying exactly what Jamie needs to hear. He’s got hook, line and sinker for him.
Beth and Monica share a rare heartfelt moment. Beth opens up to Monica about the same loss as hers. “I know how you feel because I felt it. And I feel it every day. So when I say I’m sorry Monica, I mean it,” Beth says. Monica thinks that’s why Beth is so mean. “Because nobody knows,” Mónica says. Beth admits that she’s keeping this a secret to herself because other people who know about it would only cause them pain.

John is busy with another problem at the ranch. There is a problem with the cattle and the whole herd could be destroyed by the state if it doesn’t act fast. Rip and a few members of the Bunkhouse are going to be off for a while for some “real cowboy shit” as they drive the cattle south. Rip knows his team will be away for a while, so Rip gives them money to go to the fair.
John has to lease land in the south to keep livestock. He’ll cost you $1.4 million a month. Beth tells her father they don’t have much money. John thinks he’ll just take out a loan and tells Beth they can’t sell the cattle now because they won’t have any income next year.
“We have no income this year,” Beth says. John replies, “We have no profit this year.” Beth reminds her that they don’t make a profit in any year. With cattle sold instead of beef, she Beth says John’s business model will spell the end of the farm. John says it’s worked for 100 years, but Beth says it hasn’t. John needs to quickly rethink his approach. John tries to call an acquaintance.
Jamie’s assistant tells him she’s worried he’s with Sarah. She has a bad feeling about Sarah. Jamie is blind to other people’s concerns. Sarah and Ellis reveal to Jamie that John has turned their ranch over to the trust. The land is now in conservation servitude. Jamie is shocked by this. You have the authority to ignore it, but you know you shouldn’t.

Sarah points out that Market Equities is suing the state over a bad faith deal. The company will file it in federal court in New York. Montana will be up for $4 billion. The state will go bankrupt if that happens. “Sounds like an imputable offense,” Sarah purrs in Jamie’s ear.
Jamie realizes this is true. If John resigns or leaves office because he is indicted, Montana will have a special election. Sarah says they will support him and fund his campaign. “This is your chance to become governor and take back our cursed land,” Sarah tells him.
Beth takes matters into her own hands, calling the Four Sixes Cattle Ranch and asking for cattle. She subsequently tells her father that they should make a deal with them.

In the midst of the ranch drama, Rip sweetly asks Beth to come with him to the fair. Rip reveals to Carter that he will be traveling south for a while. Rip tells Beth he can be out for a year. Beth doesn’t think she’ll survive being away from him for so long. “Where you go, I go,” Beth says. She says she will fly out and meet him in Texas. Abby is mad at Ryan when she catches her leaving and basically breaks up with him. She realizes her dream of being a cowgirl, but she doesn’t fulfill it.
Despite their many differences, there is still a magnetic attraction between Summer and John. She has become much more understanding of her lifestyle than hers. They kiss at the fair. Meanwhile, Jamie goes over his speech to accuse his father. He asks Sarah what he thinks. She encourages him to keep going. Jamie is about to go to war with his father and Beth. This won’t be nice.
