New X-MEN fan movie shows why Rogue and Gambit are great together

A new short film for X-Men fans, Mysterious, is a funny and heartfelt film with Rogue and Gambit. Written and directed by Kaitlin Cornell Krusoethe film follows the tumultuous events of 1995 Rascal limited series. Here is the official description:

Even though Rogue defeated Bella Donna and Candra, she was unable to save her childhood sweetheart Cody. She retreats to the mountains to protect her friends. But Gambit tracks her down and fights to get her home. A film that explores vulnerability and intimacy with two superheroes who can’t touch.

Overall I loved it. Rogue and Gambit are two of my favorite comic book characters and I love the dynamic between them. Gambit always feels really pushy, but he eventually gets to know Rogue well enough to know when she needs someone he can’t turn away and when to back off. There’s always been this great give and take between them and this short film does a good job of showing the vulnerability that often gets covered up in jokes and bravado. Alexa Cappiello and Charlie Chappell do a good job playing Rogue and Gambit respectively. I also have to thank the costume department for doing such a good job of taking the iconic looks and putting them into a more modern and casual style. The contacts they found for Gambit were also perfect, I didn’t notice them for a minute which I like because it meant they were subtle but once you saw them you couldn’t unsee them. The only downside is that something went wrong with the sound. I’m not sure how to describe it other than it seems like there were various mics around and we were hopping about what the different mics were picking up. So sometimes it would get really loud for a second and then quickly shut off. Hopefully they can go back and fix whatever happened in the mix in the future. Other than that, I liked it. I really liked how they didn’t actually need to use a lot of CGI to portray the powers. Since physical combat wasn’t the main showcase, they didn’t have to do many powers, it only took a few moments. Also, they need to sell their poster as an art print because it looks great and I would buy it. Watch the video below and let me know what you think.
