“Wednesday” is Netflix’s latest blockbuster. Tim Burton’s series starring Jenna Ortega has surpassed the best expectations, unseating other platform phenomena like ‘Dahmer’ and taking records from the successful fourth season of ‘Stranger Things’. At this point it is speculated that there will be a second season, but at the moment Netflix has not made it official.

And apparently, we will still have to wait a little longer to receive this good news. According to Deadline, sources close to the platform say the renewal will be announced early next year. They don’t specify when it will arrive, but in principle they are already talking to the writers to offer them a place in the script room.
As Deadline points out, things have changed slightly for the MGM-run series because the production company was acquired by Amazon earlier this year. While this wouldn’t jeopardize the studio’s projects outside of Prime Video, as its policy will continue to be to create content for both Amazon and third parties, the company’s restructuring does involve adjustments that can slow down the processes that they’re just as out-of-the-box as giving a hurricane as “Wednesday” new episodes.
“Optimistic”
Recently, Peter Friedlander, head of scripted content at Netflix, commented in an interview that it was “optimistic” with the future of ‘Wednesday’, but dotted the platform’s interest in analyzing the why of the cultural phenomenon as one of the reasons to take it easy. We will have to continue to be a little more patient.
