James Gunn confirms a Superman film without Henry Cavill and the actor says goodbye to the character

James Gunn just announced his first decision as the new co-leader of the DC Universe and it can’t be said that he has the potential to please most fans. Said director, who has been in charge of the comics corner of Warner Bros. alongside Peter Safran, decided to put an end to all the rumors that had recently been generated around Henry Cavill’s Superman once and for alland he did so by confirming news that will undoubtedly win the hearts of many fans.

Among those on the list is Superman. In the early stages, our story will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character won’t be played by Henry Cavill.

The beloved performer who brought the iconic character from ‘The Man of Steel’, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Justice League’ and most recently ‘Black Adam’ to life with an infamous cameo, he will eventually no longer embody the Son of Krypton. After Cavill himself celebrated his return following DC’s announcement, Now the new creative tandem has decided to focus on the mythical hero by taking another path, one that does not include the aforementioned actor.. Gunn dropped the bombshell via his official Twitter account, arguably one of the most active profiles in the industry, assuring that he’s already working on a new film.

“Peter and I have already finalized our plans for DC, so we couldn’t be more excited. Early next year we can start sharing some details of our first projects. Among these we have Superman. We are taking the first steps with the film, which will focus on the early life of said hero, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. We are big fans of Henry and had a great meeting with him, so we could look into many interesting possibilities to work together in the future.”.

Other than that, Gunn only cleared up a couple of issues by answering fan questions. “I’ll take care of writing the screenplay, even if we don’t know yet who will direct it.. [Lo que tenemos claro] It’s not going to be an origin story.”he says, teasing the first details about the production.

Goodbye Superman

Henry Cavill was not slow to speak before such a coup making sure to respect the decision made by Gunn & Safran, while not hiding his disappointment.

“I just met James Gunn and Peter Safran and I have some bad news. After all, I won’t be returning as Superman”says Cavill on his official Instagram account. “After the studio told me to announce my return in October, before he was hired, this news isn’t exactly easy, but it is life.. These are things that happen when there are changes to the controls. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build and I wish them and everyone involved in the new universe the best of luck.”.

“For those of you who have stood by me over the years, we can grieve a little but then we have to remember that Superman is still there. Everything that represents the character continues to exist, as well as the example of him. My turn to don the cape has passed, but the one representing Superman will always be there. It was a fun ride”.
