John Wick fans love the footage it was released for John Wick: Chapter 4! This movie will offer some epically hardcore action, but what’s the state of mind of John Wick (Keanu Reeves) while still fighting for his life? Well, director Chad Stahelski recently shared some insight into this in an interview with Total Film.
Stahelsky said, “In John Wick 4, I would say, John comes to terms with how what he does affects the people he cares about. There always has to be consequences for your actions. And in that, we’re starting to see that John understands what the consequences are.” He pauses. “Not that you’re stopping him in any way.”
He went on to talk about what influenced him in this film, saying, “I’m a huge fan of Chambara films – sword fighting films, samurai films – from Harakiri to Seven Samurai. I can literally name all 26 episodes by Zatoichi plus the TV shows! So obviously this is a huge influence. This has a very Japanese theme. It’s about a certain code, whether it’s friendship or the art of living. Even though everyone in the movie is bad , there is a code”.
Another thing he teased in the interview was that Donnie Yen and Keanu Reeves will “have their moment” in the film, which I guess means we’ll see them fight, which will be great to watch!
I love where the director’s head is with this next chapter of the story! Keanu Reeves recently spoke about his time making the film saying that “John Wick 4 is the hardest movie I’ve ever made. In terms of action, it’s the hardest movie I’ve ever made. But that’s what makes it good.” .
Reeves also shared some additional information, saying, “There are a lot of people who are coming after that [Wick]and there [are] a lot of different kinds of scenes that are fun for the action.” The Matrix the actor then teased an action sequence revolving around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, describing it as “a fight scene in traffic.”
He went on to say, “The table is this world above the world; and the people, the killers, under the table are as boundless as the grains of sand on the beach. So there [are] a lot of people come after John Wick. But really, for the John Wick movie[s], it’s really just the invention of the scene, right? How can you do these scenes?”
The latest trailer that was released was full of brutal action packed mayhem and saw John Wick get himself into all kinds of crazy situations and face a ridiculous amount of assassins who will try to kill him.
Speaking previously about the film, Stahelski teased what we can expect from the next John Wick story, saying: You’ll probably get something like this. And who else the fuck says those kinds of lines? Now you know why I like doing John Wicks.
John Wick: Chapter 4 features a cast that also includes Donnie Extravagant Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Clancy Brown, Ian McShane, And Bill Skarsgard as the sinister main villain.
The film will be released in theaters on May 27, 2023.
