The Golden Globes return to television after NBC declined to broadcast this year’s awards ceremony to give Hollywood’s Foreign Press Association time to review its voter slate and baseline to reflect a reality more like the world (i.e., that not only older heterosexual white men vote) and avoid scandals such as vote-buying through lavish gifts such as trips to Paris. The HFPA assures that it has put the batteries in, for example adding a huge number of voters (more than a hundred) balancing the number of women and non-white people. They also promise greater transparency.

Enough with NBC, which will once again host the awards gala in January next year. It will be the 80th edition and the association has already announced the nominations in the cinema and television categories. Voters wanted to return to current events by meeting tastes more in line with the general public, recalling films such as ‘Avatar: The sense of water’ or ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and series such as ‘DAHMER – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer’ or ‘Wednesday’. Of course, the film that hogs the most nominations is ‘Almas en tormento de Inisherin’ with eight nominations. In Spain we will see it in theaters in early February. In the series, “Abbott College” starts with the most nominations.
The Golden Globes gala will take place on Tuesday, January 10 and will be hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The prelude to the Oscars will again be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, and we will see which nominees and members of the industry decide to support this new leg of the HFPA by attending the event.
