Kate Winslet talks AVATAR: WATER ROAD and clashing with Zoe Saldana’s character Neytiri

Avatar: The Way of Water recently screened for critics and they all seem to be raving about what an amazing film it is. Can’t wait to see it in person and experience James CameronHere is the next chapter of this epic journey.

Kate Winslet reunited with Cameron to work with him on this film for the first time since they had worked together Titanic. It’s a film that he was really excited to get into and he explained why:

“I loved the first Avatar movie. The deeper themes it conveys about our planet in decline, were extremely touching and that mattered to me. So, I had no reservations. Plus, I was jumping into a well-oiled machine, so I was thrilled to think that everything they’d learned as filmmakers from the first film, would only be smoothed out and amplified in its second go. And it’s fun!

Winslet takes on the role of a character named Ronal in this next chapter in the Avatar story. Ronal is the tsahìk of the Metkayina clan and companion of Tonowari. With her husband, she is the mother of freediver Tsireya, Aonung, and an unborn child. She is a strong warrior who will do anything to protect her family and her home. Speaking about this character with Empire, Winslet said:

“Ronal is a formidable female character. Like Neytiri, she cares about her family’s needs and will stop at nothing to protect her children and her people. She is a real mother, in every sense ”.

Ronal finds himself clashing with Zoe SaldanaNeytiri, in the movie, and talking about their conflict and sharing those scenes with Saldana, Winslet said:

“These two women are so aligned in their deep desire to protect their individual families. They are both powerful and willful creatures who respect their husbands but will not be led by them. They carve their own way and expect to be heard. They’re both physically capable of each other, and in the world of Pandora, the need for physical prowess among all tribes isn’t just important, it’s crucial. They must also possess the same strength as their male counterparts, which both of these females do. In astounding ways. Working with Zoe was just wonderful. Her commitment to the world of Pandora and the Na’vi being is so ingrained within her now that it’s truly inspiring to be around. It’s like it’s in her blood now.

Winslet went on to say that the technology they worked with to make the film was “mind-blowing” and also talked about what it was like to act underwater while holding your breath. She explained that it was a highlight of his life for her:

“I absolutely loved, loved, loved learning to hold my breath. Maybe that’s why I got so good, just because I always wanted to. We only think we’re capable of trying new things when we’re young, in our twenties, when we feel much more invincible than we do as we get older. So, I was so proud of myself! I did something challenging and new. But pooling skills and performing with Sig at the bottom of a 15-foot tank for four minutes straight has been a career highlight. That woman is such an inspiration! Not only is she effortlessly and naturally beautiful, but her work is always so compelling. She and she is such a kind and special lady. So, to be able to hold hands, act breath-holding, and do something very few people in the world get to do, and in such a highly anticipated film, was absolutely a highlight of my life.

The actress also spoke about James Cameron and how working with him and spending time with him on this film has been a “privilege” and explained:

“It was such a privilege to spend time with him again and contribute something to his amazing passionate storytelling. I feel so grateful. It’s no secret that Jim is a perfectionist as a director, so that part hasn’t changed at all. And that’s what makes his films precise in every detail. All those tiny components are huge when put together, and it’s Jim’s vision and determination that produce extraordinary films that will stand the test of time.

It seems to work Avatar: The Way of Water it was a great experience for her. I’m sure she shines in her performance.

The film is set more than a decade after the events of the first film,”Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the troubles that haunt them, how much they do to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to survive and the tragedies they endure.

The movie will be released on December 16th and I can’t wait to watch it!
