Disney’s ALADDIN sequel is stalled, but if it does it will be a new original story

A couple of years ago it was announced that Disney would be developing a sequel to its hit live-action adaptation Aladdin. Guy Richie he had to return to directing, and Mena Massud he would return to reprise his role. Massoud recently offered an update on the project, but he seems despondent due to the film’s lack of movement.

In an interview with Variety, the actor said: “I don’t know if there is any movement. There has been a change with the writers and they are working on a brand new draft. That’s all I know. If Aladdin 2 it happens, it’s great. I think it should happen. Dan Lin And Jonathan Eric of Rideback Productions, which made the Lego movies and Aladdin, I want to make sure they get it right. So if we see Aladdin 2, will not be based on the animated version at all. This will be a new original story.”

As you know, there was a direct-to-video sequel to the animated film, titled Return of Jafarbut it looks like this live-action sequel won’t tell that story.

I actually enjoyed the live-action adaptation of this movie, and it grossed over a billion dollars at the box office, so it seems like a sequel would make sense! I’m not sure what’s going on at Disney, but Ritchie has been keeping busy and organizing other projects, so it doesn’t seem like it’s a priority for him.

Honestly, I’m more interested in watching Ritchie make his original movies. But, if he manages to do Aladdin 2Sure… I’d watch it.
