It wasn’t enough for Taylor Swift to make it big in music by breaking Spotify streaming records, selling records in droves, or filling stadiums. he was also bitten by a passion first for acting and then for directing. As an actress we have seen her in small roles in ‘CSI’ and ‘New Girl’, and in the films ‘Valentine’s Stories’, ‘The Giver’, ‘Cats’ and most recently ‘Amsterdam’. As a director, she has successfully dealt with many of her video clips since 2008 and this same 2022 she has moved on to short film with ‘All Too Well’, which after winning Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs, could also end up nominated for the ‘Oscars. This short film, which she also wrote, screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
Now, and seeing his talent behind the cameras as well, Searchlight Pictures has hired the singer-songwriter to shoot their first feature film with them, also written by Swift herself (and multifaceted). Nothing is known about the plot, casting or when we will see it and all David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, presidents of Searchlight, have said is that “Taylor is a unique artist and storyteller of her generation. It is a real joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting new creative journey.”
Swift is currently the only solo artist to win two MTV VMA Best Director awards, one for ‘All Too Well: The Short Film’ (14 minutes) and another for the video clip ‘The Man’, from the album ‘Lover’. Swift also has 11 Grammy Awards and was the only female artist to win Album of the Year three different times. At just 32, Swift released ‘Midnights’, her tenth studio album, in October.

As for Searchlight Pictures, the Disney-owned studio is behind the hits of ‘Nomadland’ and ‘The Shape of Water’ and recently released Mark Mylod’s ‘The Menu’ and Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’. Waiting for release is Sam Mendes’ ‘Empire of Light’ which hits theaters in the US on December 9 and in Spain on January 13, 2023.
