Last month, we flagged that actor Justin Long was quoted speaking of the possibility of a dodgeball 2. The first film, titled Dodgeball: A True Story of UnderdogsHe acted Vince Vaughn And Ben Stiller as feuding gym owners who take their teams of dodgeball players to the championship tournament to see who would get the rights to Vaughn’s character’s small gym.
Long said Vaughn actually had a fun idea for a second film, but Stiller is nervous about making a sequel, given that his Zoolanders the sequel was a box office flop.
Now, we’re hearing straight from Vince Vaughn what the state of the possible film is, and it sounds pretty good. In a recent red carpet interview with THR at the premiere of Vaughn’s new comedy Christmas with the CampbellsVaughn was asked dodgeball 2and he said:
“They’ve been talking about this stuff forever and I had a fun idea and the studio likes it, so we’ll see where that goes. I think Ben is open to doing that, I think he’s actually in the same boat as me, which is if it’s a really fun and great idea then it’s fun, but if it’s just something to do again then why?
Star pointed A Christmas Story Christmas – the A Christmas story sequel he recently produced following an adult Ralphie from the 1983 film – as an example of how to do a sequel right that’s not just a reimagining of the original.
“You just want to make sure you get in dodgeball which feels like a nice continuation and a story that could stand on its own. I think for all of us if it feels right and it’s fun, it would be something to go back to, and if it’s not, it’s just another idea getting kicked.
Owen Wilson also recently teased a Wedding Crashers follow-up may still take place. Vaughn said she revisits some of his famous films:
“I’ve had so many movies that I’ve been lucky with and I’ve never jumped into sequels because of that. Because I’ve always thought that if you’re just doing it because you think it’s a way to get an audience, the problem is, you’re not going to feel good on the other end. So we waited and I’m sure one of them will make sense, there’s a continuation that will work.
It’s nice to hear that these films are about being made, but that they will only move forward if the story and the script are worth telling. I appreciate it and it makes me think that if they get made, they will be fun and worth a look. Which Vince Vaughn movie would you like to see a sequel to?
