We believe that a story has achieved its goal when it conveys to us what its protagonists feel, for better or for worse. And it is precisely this last thing that not many are used to spending watching a suspense film, that you should avoid these titles if you don’t want to spend moments that can create anxiety or claustrophobia.

One of the best examples of suspenseful movies not suitable for people with anxiety is ‘A Quiet Place’, a sci-fi thriller directed by and starring John Krasinski, opposite Emily Blunt. In principle it is not a story with very strong moments, at least until the moment of delivery arrives, a tense scene that you will surely want to finish as soon as possible. Available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Star+.

The Humans

On the surface it’s an innocent drama A24, but little by little ‘The Humans’ turns out to be a thriller that will increase your anxiety. Directed by Stephen Karam, the story follows a family gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving, before a war breaks out in Manhattan, which starts causing strange things in the building. Available on Apple TV.

Dancer in the dark

Starring Bjork, David Morse, Catherine Deneuve and more, “Dancer in the Dark” is a musical drama by Lars Von Trier, which may seem innocuous, but it also has a story that could traumatize anyone. It is an immigrant worker in the United States who is losing her sight, and she knows that her son will also go blind if he does not find the money for the operation.

Thoroughbred

In one of the lesser known roles of Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke, we have “Thoroughbreds”, a black comedy-thriller directed by Cory Finley. The story follows Lily and Amanda, two friends since childhood, but now that they are teenagers they are separated. But now they both come up with a plan to solve their problems once and for all. Available on YouTube, Amazon and Apple TV.

the lament

From South Korea comes ‘The Wailing’, or from the original title, Goksung, a horror and suspense film directed by Na Hong-Jin, in which the life of a quiet Korean town is told, until they are disturbed by a series of brutal murders. Rumors and investigations point to an old hermit, but the villagers look to a shaman for answers. Available on Apple TV.

enter the void

Perhaps for many other occasions it could be an ideal title, but on this occasion Gaspar Noé’s ‘Enter the Void’ is a fantastic drama which may not be suitable for people with sensory impairments. It’s about the psychedelic journey of a ghost who was a drug dealer in life, who experiences paranormal life while walking around Tokyo.
