Oscar-winning actor Robert DeNiro (wild bull, Taxi driver, Meet the Parents, Silver Linings Playbook) has signed on to star in the political thriller series Day zero on Netflix. The series was created by Eric Newmann (narcos, True story) And Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The thing about Pam), who serve as writers and executive producers, with a story by Newman, Oppenheim and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Schmidt. Panoramic Media’s Jonathan Glickman will also executive produce, with De Niro executive producing as well as starring.
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the show would be a political thriller in which De Niro would play a former US president. This will be the first regular television role for De Niro, who is one of the most popular film actors of the past 50 years.
Netflix, reps for De Niro, and each of the creators involved are keeping quiet in the early stages of development, but we’ll keep you posted as details emerge.
