It’s almost December and Goodreads has published the list of the most anticipated science fiction and fantasy novels to be released during the last month of the year. December is a pretty light month for posting, so that’s a relatively short list. Plus, voting for the 2022 Goodreads Choice Award is now open. You still have a few days to cast your votes and the winners will be announced on December 8th. What are you looking forward to reading this month?

Florida is slipping away. As devastating weather and rising sea levels gradually ravage the state’s infrastructure, a powerful hurricane approaches a small town on the southeast coast. Kirby Lowe, a power line worker; his pregnant wife, Frida; and their two sons, Flip and Lucas, prepare for the worst. When the boys go missing just before the hurricane hits, Kirby heads into the high winds to look for them. Left alone, Frida goes into premature labor and gives birth to an unusual child, Wanda, who she names after the catastrophic storm that ushers her into a society closer to collapse than ever.
As Florida continues to unravel, Wanda grows. Moving from childhood to adulthood, adapting not only to the changing landscape but also to the people who are left behind in a place abandoned by civilization, Wanda loses her family, gains community and ultimately seeks adventure, love and purpose in a place redone. from nature.
Told in four parts – power, water, light and time – The Light Pirate mirrors the rhythms of the elements and the sometimes rapid, sometimes slow dissolution of the world as we know it. It’s a meditation on the changes we’d rather not see, on the future we’d rather not welcome, and a reminder of the beauty and violence of an untameable nature.

East and West. Humans and Spirits. Breccani and Tamerlaini. Cadence Island has always kept itself and its inhabitants in a tenuous balance. But now Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, has pushed everyone and everything in his path in an attempt to claim dominion over all.
In the West, Adaira struggles to adjust to the more brutal and harsh lifestyles among the Breccans. Struggling to find his place in the clan, he soon realizes it may be the last role he wants to fill. And as magic blossoms effortlessly for the Breccan in the west, the spirits continue to suffer under Bane’s harsh power, felt in every gust of wind.
In the East, Jack is adrift without Adaira until he sings to fire spirits as weak as embers, acquiring a dangerous mission he never expected. One that is meant to lead him westward. Similarly, Torin and Sidra are consumed by a new mystery as the disease spreads first among the crops and then to the people of Clan Tamerlaine. While Sidra desperately searches for a cure, Torin dares to make a deal with the spirits: a precarious madness at any time, but especially now as the days grow darker.
With the island falling further off balance, both humans and spirits will have to unite to face Bane, and Jack’s gift with the harp will be called upon once more. Yet no one can challenge the North Wind without paying a terrible price, and the sacrifice required this time may be more than Jack, Adaira, Torin and Sidra can bear to pay.
