Baz Luhrmann Confirms There Will Be A “Concert Cut” Of His Music Biopic ELVIS Starring Austin Butler

Director Baz Luhrmannmusical biopic by Elvis it was a great show of a movie that covered the life and career of the king of rock n roll, Elvis Presley. Austin Butler he played Presley in a masterful performance that captured the essence of the soulful and enigmatic musician, and we may be able to see more from him in a new montage of the film.

In a recent interview with IndieWire at the 2022 Gotham Awards, Luhrmann confirmed that there will eventually be a concert cut of the music biopic:

“It’s a directors’ meeting. It’s not a cut. There’s a lot of material that adds up to four hours but now I’ve gone to record to say not today not tomorrow but at some point I would [it]. Because Austin made his concerts to the fullest. He did all the numbers. Austin just did that and it was an out-of-body experience to see him do those full gigs, so one day he’ll cut those full gigs together.

Luhrmann continued: “We just had all the cameras. [Cinematographer] Mandy Walker even reproduced lenses from the 60s, 70s and 80s to match everything exactly.”

Butler previously said the concerts took place completely during production, stating (via The Film Stage) during the film’s premiere:

“The way we approached each [concert performance] it was, for example, Baz and I decided early on that when I was on stage, we weren’t going to have a moment where we were suddenly talking about acting. So I’d go on stage, like in Vegas, I’d do the whole concert, curtain down, I’m gone. So whenever the audience is having the experience of the show. And if we cut for whatever reason, I’d entertain the crowd like Elvis. It was the same thing he had to make jokes to keep everyone entertained.

It looks amazing! I hope we get to see it. I loved Butler playing Elvis and I loved the film Luhrmann made. I think it would be really cool to see the concert cut. And you?
