The Grinch, one of the most symbolic Christmas characters due to his hatred of this holiday, was created in 1957 and has since been adapted into different formats. He started with children’s books, then appeared on television in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and in the 2000s he made the leap to the big screen at the hands of Jim Carrey, the actor tasked with bringing to life this character in the first live-action The Grinch movie. 22 years after the character’s last live-action adventure, the infamous Christmas hater returns with a much bloodier tone. He does it in ‘The Mean One’, a horror and comedy film in which he will play a cruel killer that has released its first trailer:
The film introduces us to Cindy, a girl who lives in a small village at the foot of a mountain whose parents have been murdered and whose Christmas presents have also been stolen. The girl testified that the culprit of this disaster was a bloodthirsty green creature wearing a Santa suit known as The Mean One. This version of The Grinch terrorizes the city and threatens to wipe out Christmas and the townspeople. 20 years later, the last hope of the residents will be Cindy, who will find the courage to stand up to this cruel creature and will try to capture and kill it. Importantly, “The Mean One” is a parody of the original work that does not have the rights to the character or his stories, so despite being an open secret, the term Grinch or others that are not used are not used could cause legal trouble for the film’s creative team.

Directing ‘The Mean One’ is Steven LaMorte (‘3 Hours Till Dead’), while the screenplay is entrusted to brothers Finn Kobler (‘All Halloweens Eve 2’) and Flip Kobler (‘Jack and the Magic Beans “, “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Treasure”). David Howard Thornton (‘Terrifier 2’) brings The Grinch to life and Krystle Martin (‘They Live in Grey’) is Cindy, the one charged with trying to bring him to him Street. ‘The Mean One’, a Sleight of Hand Productions production, will be released in the US on December 15th in select theaters and online. It is not yet known when and how it will reach the rest of the world.
not the only killer
This take on The Grinch joins the list of childish and peaceful characters getting a makeover to become a much more gruesome version. This is the case of Winnie the Pooh, who will star in ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’, a story in which the famous honey-loving yellow bear will try to kill Christopher Robin because he abandoned him. During the journey, more than one person will suffer at the hands of Winnie. Another and more recent case is that of Bambi, who in ‘Bambi: The Reckoning’ will be, in the words of the director, Scott Jeffrey, “a cruel killing machine” who seeks revenge after her mother’s death.
