Hugh Jackman talks about the exact moment he regretted announcing his retirement from Wolverine

It was a sad day when Hugh Jackman announced it Logano it would be his last time playing Wolverine and that he would retire from the role of the Marvel character, but it was understandable! He had been playing the character for years and Logano it was just a wonderful send-off to the character.

As you know though, the retirement was short-lived and Jackman will be playing Wolverine again in Deadpool 3. But, long before that deal was set in stone, there was an exact moment in his life where he regretted his withdrawal. He talked about that moment in an interview with Deadline, saying:

“Well, I’d been watching Deadpool for 20 minutes and had just announced, literally, a few weeks before Logan was going to be the last, which I fully meant. And then I was like, ‘Uh-oh.’… I was driving to the beach. It was mid-August, I had a week off from the show (The Music Man on Broadway), my first week off in eight, nine months, 10 months. And it came to me like, ‘I really want to do this.’ And that was all.

“As soon as I got to the beach, I called Ryan (Reynolds) just to see what the hell was going on. ‘it’s Ryan Reynolds outside my house with posters saying, ‘Please.’ He’s asking me constantly. And I was like, ‘Dude, I’m done. I’m done, I’m done, I’m done, I’m done, I’m done.’ Then when he called me [back], he was like, ‘Are you serious?’ So yes. I’m a bad poker player. All this time I said I was done, I really meant it. But still, somewhere deep inside, this idea was obviously lurking and brewing.”

I’m happy that Jackman hasn’t retired since and that we’ll see him as Wolverine at least one last time. He’d be pretty crazy if he ended up playing the character much later Deadpool 3. I have no idea what Marvel’s plans are for Wolverine, but we’ll find out soon enough.
