A reimagining of the classic 1969 counterculture film Easy Rider is in the works of Maurice Fadida’s Kodiak Pictures, Defiant Studios’ Eric B. Fleischman, and the Jean Boulle Group, which owns the film adaptation rights.
“The original Easy Rider he is credited with showcasing a changing sociopolitical landscape in America, particularly through the lens of his restless and progressive youth. Dennis Hopper, Pietro Fonda And Southern Terry wrote the drug-laden motorcycle epic, which Hopper directed and in which both he and Fonda starred. The film is also known for giving a youngster an initial boost Jack Nicholson.”
The producers behind the reboot are currently looking for bold writers and/or directors to update the project for modern times in the same fringe spirit. The project is compared with the I believe movies and how they revived the Rocky history for modern times.
Fadida said of the project:
“Our goal is to build on the counterculture and freedom narrative that the original left us, and give today’s youth a film that pays serious attention to their countercultures and challenges. What today’s young viewers are experiencing in their daily lives may seem crazy to the older generation, but it may very well become the social norm, as was the case with the culture shift of the late 1960s. We hope to play a part in this change.”
The original movie was pretty good. I wonder which way they will go to modernize it. I feel like there’s a shift in youth culture today that’s similar to the shift that was felt in the original story period, so I’m curious to at least see what they do. What do you think of a reinvented Easy Rider?
