Two preview photos from the movie LUTHER on Netflix with Idris Elba

Netflix has released two new photos of the Luther film that is directed at us. Based on the BBC One series of the same name, the film stars Idris Elba as DCI John Luther, a brilliant detective who always seems to be caught between serving justice and breaking the law himself. Series creator Neil Cross is writing the film, and Jamie Payne (Primordial, foreigner) is directing.

Elba told Empire earlier this week that his Luther character doesn’t just hang around in the “gritty streets of London” for the film, as the story portrays a “different life of Luther’s experience.”

He continued:

“We really peel the onion here because we had the time and the size to do it. Neil gives some too [Cross] a lot more, you know, Luther-land to play with, in terms of where Luther can go, how he goes, what the landscape is.”

Elba added:

“It’s really dangerous when you expand from television to film to spend a lot of money and change the features of the show for that time. I wanted to make sure that even if we had a bigger budget, [we didn’t] distort Luther’s land parameters too much. We amplify the action and we amplify the stakes. But [Season 3’s] man moment under the bed? This doesn’t cost you much money. Those moments are still intact.”

Luther it was an incredibly great series. Can’t wait to see this movie and continue the story. Production started a few weeks ago, so we should hear more about the story and release date soon. Check out the photos from the movie and let us know if you’re excited to see Luther hit Netflix.
