Konami has announced a new set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game (TCG) I’m excited for! The new set is called Maze of memories and will include what appear to be some redevelopments of famous monsters from the anime, several world premiere cards, and reprints of some powerful competitive cards.

I am very excited for Black Luster Soldier – Legendary Swordsman. Black Luster Soldier is my favorite card and so whenever it gets retrained or supported I get very excited. Based on the Yugipedia entry, he’s going to be a paper devil. Not sure if he’ll be competitive, but you never know, right? Basically, you can skip the normal draw to add a ritual spell to your hand from your deck; your opponent cannot activate cards or effects during your Battle Phase; and if he was Ritual Summoned with a Normal Monster, he attacks and destroys an opponent’s monster, all of your opponent’s cards go back to their Deck, which will bring them back. Sounds really good, but we’ll see if he’s able to make it in the meta.

Another reason I’m super excited is that the new World Premiere cards will bring back Gate Guardian! It looks like new Fusions based on Kazejin, Suijin and Sanga of the Thunder will be released, and I guess this includes a retraining of Gate Guardian which actually does something. I love Gate Guardian from the anime but they really dirtied him in the TCG making him a very hard vanilla to summon. Sure, it had 3750 ATK, but it was dealt with pretty easily in the weird scenario it was summoned.

We don’t know all the upcoming reissues Maze of memories, but we know one: Baronne De Fleur. I believe this Synchro Monster has received some competitive play and this will mark its first reissue.

More cards to come Maze of memories they include the Duel Academy Field Enchantment and the Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon. There will be 67 total cards in the set, and each booster pack (MSRP $4.49 each) will contain 1 Foil and 6 Rares. You can have fun Maze of memories when it launches on March 10, 2023, and find the rarity breakdown below. What excites you most about this set?

  • 42 rare

  • 15 super rare

  • 10 ultra rare

    • 15 cards also available as Collector’s Rare
