The first season of Lucasfilm Star Wars: Andor he took us on an incredible, emotional and intense journey. I couldn’t be happier with how this show turned out. and I can’t wait to see what happens in season two.
The Andor final ended with Diego LunaCassian Andor asks Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) to bring it into the rebel fold. In an interview with Fandom, showrunner and creator Tony Gilroy spoke about what it means to Andor saying:
“His loyalty to the Rebellion – which means many different things to many different people – his loyalty and his commitment to it will no longer be in question,” Gilroy said. “It’s a blood oath he took at the end. So that question is over. But becoming a leader… What do you do with that?
Gilroy went on to say that the upcoming second season will follow Cassian’s evolution as a rebel leader as the Alliance begins to come together:
“How are all these disparate factions going to try to learn to play together and transform into Yavin? [There will be] all the betrayal with that, all the manipulation by the Empire, the spy game, the war games, the personal stuff, while we’re telling a heartbreaking story, a great adventure,” Gilroy added. “But it will be about using [Cassian’s] leadership and negotiating its way through the minefield of a revolution it is trying to bring together.”
In a separate interview with Collider, Luna shared her thoughts on Cassian’s offer to Luthen at the end of the season finale saying:
“There’s a lot to learn to find the Cassian that we see in Rogue One, and the commitment, the clarity, the conviction that he has there. But here, what he’s saying is like, ‘Yeah, take this [life] away from me because it means nothing unless it’s part of what you guys are fighting for.’ And I think that’s it, it’s very deep, and that’s where he discovers that it can be different [from] what everyone sees in him and what he sees, and what he thought he was. That there is a chance to transform, evolve and become part of a solution.”
The second season will bring the Andor series at the end as it will lead directly to the events of A rogue one. Regarding this, Gilroy added:
“It’s no secret, I’ve said it a million times, the last episode of our show, we’re going to walk [Cassian] through the asphalt in the ship to Kafrene’s Ring to start [Rogue One]. So we’ll have to be there, we’ll have to be in Yavin, and we’ll have to plug it in. We’ll have to send him there with the few scraps of breadcrumbs and evidence that make the trip worthwhile and make such a risky thing worth it for the Rebel Alliance.
Andor Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2024.
