Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, who is associated with his character portrayed in ‘The Mask of Zorro’ films 1 and 2, has revealed that he would like another actor to take the lead with the iconic character. The interpreter confessed that he would like the franchise to return soon and, if so, Tom Holland will play the role of Zorro.

Banderas was asked about the possibility that he would one day return to interpreting Alexander Murrietabetter known in films as El Zorro, to which he replied that he would, but passed the baton to someone else and in his selection, Tom Holland favorite to be successor, after working together on ‘Uncharted’. He is convinced that the ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ actor also has the energy and fun to do well.

Yes, I would. I would consider this possibility. Why not?… “If Zorro returns, I’ll do what Anthony Hopinks did in the first film and give the torch to someone else,” Antonio Banderas bet.

When asked who would like to be his successor in ‘The Mask of Zorro’he did not hesitate to answer the name of his favorite actor to play the character he played in the two previous films:

Tom Holland. I did ‘Uncharted’ with him and he’s very energetic and fun and has a spark too. Why not?” the actor added.

However, Banderas does not lose hope of being the one to play El Zorro again, provided that it is a film set in a completely different context, perhaps taken from the comic book miniseries. “Django/Fox”, a sequel to director Quentin Tarantino’s film ‘Django Unchainded’ where they team up.

There is currently no information confirming a new Mask of Zorro film, but Antonio has opened up the possibility of a third installment and expansion of the franchise, perhaps in the coming years, with the desire and possibility of seeing Tom Holland as the character lead.

Meanwhile, Banderas is preparing for his next project which is ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ where he once lends his voice to the titular animated character. This film awaits its premiere on December 21 in cinemas.

As for the “El Zorro” projects, there are two of them currently in development. The first concerns what Disney is pursuing, through a television series with Wilmer Valderrama as the protagonist and in turn executive producer, this will be a reboot of the 1957 house of the mouse series and will arrive exclusively for the Disney + streaming platform.

The second is the one developed by Robert and Rebecca Rodríguez, in which a young Latina seeks revenge after her father’s murder, to get it she joins a secret society where she adopts the personality of El Zorro. This project is a production of The CW. Both do not have a release date assigned but perhaps next year we will have more details revealed.

For his part, Tom Holland He hasn’t declared himself enthusiastic about being able to star at some point in the next film, if it happens, of ‘The mask of Zorro’, nor has he responded to the praise launched by Antonio Banderas towards his work and his person.
