The irreverent Marvel character Jensen Ackles from “The Boys” almost played

Few are the actors and actresses today who aren’t related, in one way or another, to Marvel, either because they were part of it, are about to enter, or in this case, to turn down a character role in the UCM . . Such is the case with Jensen Ackles, who brought Soldier Boy to life in ‘The Boys’ Season 3, but nearly ended up with a snarky anti-hero in the past.

During the event known as SPNPHX J2, in one of the panels, Jensen Ackles revealed he’s almost Deadpool, the character who is now widely known for the work of Ryan Reynolds. The Amazon Prime Video series actor said he narrowly landed the role of the mercenary with a mouth, but the result he believes was the best for him.

Jensen Ackles, known for his role as Soldier Boy in ‘The Boys’ says that “there was definitely a movie [de Marvel] of which I was a lot [involucrado con] conversations” said the actor. “It was probably a good thing because my ex girlfriend was there and it probably would have been awkward, so it probably worked out for the best.”

Though ‘dead Pool’ he couldn’t be played by Jensen Ackles, the actor doesn’t hold a grudge against the Ryan Reynolds film, in fact, he thinks “the entire cast was incredible.” and “I probably would have messed it up for a lot of people if I was a part of it, so it’s probably best that I didn’t. But, man, that would have been great.”

Jensen Ackles and superheroes in his career

While it’s unknown which version of Deadpool Jensen Ackles was referring to, it’s very likely that he was referring to the one in X-Men: Origins Wolverine, where Ryan Reynolds was first introduced as a character. In any case, Ackles is not the first time he approaches superhero films, because together with Eric Kripke, showrunner of ‘The Boys’, he also participated in ‘Supernatural’ where he gave life to Dean Winchester.

But Ackles also brought Jason Teague to life in ‘Smallville’ season 4, though the actor originally auditioned for the role of Clark Kent, which he lost to Tom Welling. While, in the field of animation, Ackles has lent his voice to Jason Todd, Redd Hood and Batman himself in some animated films.

His career did not end there, as he also applied for the role of Captain America before Chris Evans, as well as for Hawkeye, from which Jeremy Renner emerged victorious. However, it all seems to have been a case for him to finally bring to life the antithesis of all those heroes, Soldier Boy, who will return for ‘The Boys’ Season 4 in 2023.
