Will Ferrell (SNL, Elf) has had a ton of successful comedy films in his career, and now he’s just having fun with the career choices he’s making. With a new Christmas movie titled Humorous which has just been released on Apple and an R-rated animated film titled Strays due out next year, fans can’t wait to see Ferrell as CEO at Barbie film that is in post-production.
While Ferrell isn’t as well known or talked about on the street for his more serious roles, they do exist and it’s always interesting to see him take on them. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ferrell described his role in the Barbie film, and what he thought of the film as a whole, saying:
It is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate example of high art and low art. It’s a loving homage to the brand and, at the same time, it couldn’t be more satirical—just a fantastic commentary on male patriarchy and women in society and why Barbie is criticized and yet why every little girl still wants to play with Barbie. Boy, when I read this, I thought, “That’s awesome.” I can play the CEO of Mattel and being that guy who is just numb but weird and then, not to spoil anything, but…. Still, that’s what excites me.
It will be fun to see which Oscar-nominated director Greta Gervig and his writing partner Noah Baumbach Come with. They always joked that this film was going to be unexpected, and another of the film’s stars, Ryan Goslinganticipated that the film has the “best script I’ve ever read”.
If nothing else, the secrecy of the plot and the buzz surrounding the film has certainly piqued the interest of movie fans.
Barbie will be released in theaters on July 21, 2023. Can’t wait to try it?
