New research suggests Bruce Lee died from drinking too much water

Almost 50 years have passed since the legendary martial artist Bruce Lee suddenly dead. There have been many theories surrounding his death, but in 1973 it was determined that the cause of his death was cerebral edema, which is a swelling of the brain. Due to the sudden nature of his death, some fans believed he was murdered.

Now, new research has been conducted proposing that Lee’s death was caused by his “kidneys’ inability to excrete excess water.” This study was conducted by a group of kidney specialists in Spain and was published in the December 2022 edition of the Clinical Kidney Journal.

The report explains that Lee, who was 32 years old at his death, possessed “multiple risk factors for hyponatremia,” which is “an abnormally low blood sodium concentration, citing the actor’s chronic fluid intake, l use of marijuana (which increases thirst) and documented factors that may have interfered with the function of your kidney, such as prescription drugs, alcohol intake, and a history of organ injury.

The study concludes: “We hypothesize that Bruce Lee died of a specific form of renal dysfunction: the inability to excrete enough water to maintain water homeostasis…. This can lead to hyponatremia, brain edema and death within hours if excess water intake is not accompanied by excretion of water in the urine,” the paper concludes. 40% of people hospitalized and can cause death from excessive water ingestion even in young and healthy subjects, a wider dissemination of the concept that excessive water intake can kill is needed.

In addition to this, Lee had reportedly lived on an almost liquid diet consisting mostly of juices. This is an interesting study, and as someone who is obsessed with Lee’s work and life, I wanted to share it and bring it to the attention of those of you who may also have an obsession with Bruce Lee.
