Peyton Reed Talks How Kang the Conqueror’s Arrival in ANT-MAN 3 Will Send Ripples Through the MCU

The MCU’s next big title is just a few months away, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania, and promises to rock the Marvel universe. We were introduced to the film’s villain, Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majorat the end of the first season of the Disney+ series Loki. We’ll really see what he’s capable of Ant Man 3and will be Marvel’s greatest nemesis since Thanos, as his reign will last through Marvel’s next two epic films, Avengers: Secret Wars And Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

Ant-Man franchise director Peyton Reed sat down to talk about the villain and his “profound impact on the MCU” with Empire, saying:

“I think it has a profound impact on the MCU. Jeff Loveness, who wrote this film, is also writing The Kang Dynasty, so there has been a lot of discussion about the impact this appearance of Kang The Conqueror has. There are great things in store.”

For audiences, it will be an opportunity to see what Majors can bring to Kang’s alternate selves. It is said that he will bring a completely different energy than what we have seen in Loki. Reed teased:

“Kang the Conqueror in our film is a very different character. He is someone who has dominion over time, and he is a warrior and a strategist.”

Since Ant-Man’s previous villains were lower tier threats like Yellowjacket and Ghost, as well as Walton GogginsSonny Burch, this was a chance to see him take on, as Reed calls him, “an all-time bad guy,” as huge a villain as they come.

“That’s interesting to me: taking the smallest, and according to some people the weakest, Avenger, and pitting him against this sheer force of nature.”

I love Ant-Man. He didn’t get the credit he deserved for the role he played Avengers: Finale, and I know he’s able to resist, at least with the help of his Avenger friends. I am excited for this next phase and can’t wait to see what Kang brings our way.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania will be released in theaters on July 28, 2023.
