The Classic Horror Movies That Inspired the Acts of Art in ‘Terrifier’ – Bloody Disgusting (Courtesy)
IF you want to get into the horror genre and stay immersed in popular culture, you have to see the ones that have done it before. This is how Damien Leone, the creator of Art the Clown, did it, and what is one of the most popular films of the genre this year, like “Terrifier 2”. That’s why, now let’s look at some of the horror movies it takes its inspiration from.
Although this year there have been several titles that have been among the highlights of the genre, such as “Smile” or “The Black Phone”, there has been one film that has stood out, “Terrifying 2′, which takes its inspiration from other classic horror filmsfrom which Leone takes the best to create the ruthless acts of Art. And while there are no clear claims that they have been a point of reference for the director, there are some pretty obvious similarities.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Perhaps the first of these, and the most obvious of all, is Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece, ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, a horror film that inspired art into being, what he is now, a ruthless killer clown. Starring Marilyn Burns, Gunnar Hansen brought to life Leatherface, the leather-masked killer whose acts are still just as brutal nearly 50 years later. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
The prophecy
Around the same time, it was released a classic horror film that inspired Damien Leone with ‘Terrifying’, ‘The prophecy’ from 1976. Even the child protagonist and the director share the same name, decided by the director’s mother after seeing this film. It is about the United States ambassador to Great Britain, who, after a series of unfortunate events, believes that his son is the antichrist.

friday the 13th
“Growing up, Jason was my favorite slasher,” Damien Leone says of one of the horror films that has clearly influenced his portrayal of the gory killer in his franchise. And is that “Friday the 13th” was born at a time when horror film killers were the most popular in the genre and that, even today, continues to be a reference for anyone starting out in horror. Available on HBO Max.
Dawn of the dead
Being a fan of horror in all its aspects, Leone also had to go through the work of George A. Romero, with ‘Shaun of the Dead’, “one of my favorite movies of all time,” says the movie director. And also the first to feature modern zombies that have influenced other genres and many works of popular culture.
dead evil 2
And finally, the director himself says that both ‘Return of the Living Dead’ and ‘Evil Dead 2’ are classics he admires, but that “it’s not a style I look for in my films”. Even if the story of Sam Raimi is seen in Art’s adventure, above all in graphic violence, and above all in a twisted and dark comedy only for a few. Available on YouTube.
