Quentin Tarantino made nine films with Harvey Weinstein. Looking back, he claims he didn’t get the full picture of his misdeeds.
On tour to promote his new book, speculation in the cinemaTarantino told HBO’s Chris Wallace that he has heard stories, but not all of them.
“I’ve never heard the stories that came out later,” Tarantino told Wallace. “I heard the same stories that everyone else heard. I wish I had talked to Harvey about it and said, ‘Harvey, you can’t do this.’ In fact, I chalked it up to a ‘Mad Men’-era version of the boss chasing the secretary behind the desk. I’m not saying it’s right. That’s what I heard… in that category. There was never any talk of rape or anything like that.
‘The reason I didn’t do it [say something to Weinstein] because it’s a very difficult conversation,” Tarantino admitted. “I found it pathetic. I found what he was doing pathetic and I didn’t want to confront his pathetic.
Tarantino said he did not realize the seriousness of Weinstein’s wrongdoing.
“I didn’t think it was like, ‘Okay, you do this for me or you don’t get this movie.’ I’ve never heard actresses say anything like that,” Tarantino added. It was easy to poke it to some extent. Anyway, I feel bad about… what I feel bad about is that I feel bad because I don’t did not have a man-to-man conversation with him.
Weinstein is now on trial in Los Angeles for assaulting four women. He is already serving a 23-year sentence for rape and assault in New York.
