CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav he’s still talking about their DC strategy which is being led by the co-CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn And Peter Safran. in this most recent interview, Zaslav says they’re trying to “get the hell out of DC,” and he’ll be more focused.
Here’s what Zaslav had to say (via THR): “I think over the next few years we’re going to see a lot of growth and opportunity around DC, there won’t be four Batmans, and so part of our strategy is to drive the damn thing out of DC, which James and Peter they’re going to. I think they’ve got the fans excited. I think they’re going to excite you for a period of time.
This is what all fans expect! The CEO went on to talk about the focus by saying they’re looking to Marvel for inspiration:
“There won’t be four Batmans. The strategy that [former Disney CEO Bob] Iger put together was all Marvel in one place. You don’t wake up and find there’s a Batman TV show somewhere and a Batman cartoon somewhere else, they all have to relate to each other. There has to be a look and feel to all of this. And so, a few months ago I went on a journey of “How do I get all of DC in one place?” Because I think that’s one of the biggest opportunities in this company.
They definitely hyped the future of DC! Gunn previously teased that they’re trying to tell the greatest story ever told in multiple films, saying:
“But all of our initial focus is on the story moving forward, crafting the new DCU and telling the greatest story ever told across multiple films, television shows and animated projects. We invite all DC fandoms from across the multiverse – and all others in this new universe. We look forward to revealing more.”
Zaslav also previously teased what’s coming and shared that running DC Studios is a passion project for Gunn and Safran, and not just a job:
“[For them], running DC Studios is a passionate project, not just a job. James is a brilliant storyteller who has the distinction of being the first and only director to direct the film for both Marvel and DC. Peter is a prolific producer whose credits include DC’s top-grossing film, Aquaman, as well as the whole Evocation universe, the most successful horror franchise of all time. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have them join our ranks. And I’m excited for what’s to come. I’ve spent a lot of time with James and Peter over the last few months, talking about our strategy and long-term plans for DC’s future in TV, animation and film. They have a powerful vision and blueprint that will drive a more unified creative approach. [It] it will allow us to realize the full value of one of the world’s most iconic franchises. I’m at work right now.”
Gunn also opened up about his ideas for the future of DC Studios saying they’re planning for the next eight to 10 years:
“The opportunity to make DC as big as possible and the way it should be – that’s why I’m doing this job, because I know Peter and I can do it. We’ve spent the last couple of days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the business, the best writers in the business, starting to lay out that eight- to 10-year plan of what it’s going to look like in theater, on TV, in animation, across the board. for these characters.
Safran added, “This was such a unique opportunity to tell a great overarching story. A beautiful big story across movies, TV games, live-action and animation.
There are big exciting things coming from DC Studios and I can’t wait to see the DC universe they end up building for fans!
