Actor Martin Freemann first appeared in the MCU in 2016 Captain America Civil War as Everett Ross, a former CIA agent tasked with overseeing the Avengers. He then went on to work with T’Challa and Shuri, who saved his life Black Pantherand we saw him again in Marvel’s most recent film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Now the actor is taking his character in the upcoming series Secret invasion, which is coming to Disney+ next year. The series “centers on Fury and Talos, who first met during the events of Captain Marvel — and a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.
Ben Mendelsohn is back as Talos, Cobie Smulder such as Maria Hill, e Don Cheadle as a war machine. Also appears in the series is Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders), Killian Scott (Love Hate), Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic animals), Christopher McDonald (dancers), And Olivia Colmann (The crown).
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Freeman described the series, saying:
“It looks quite different from the stuff I’ve seen. It feels like a small departure. Yes, it does — in ways I wouldn’t be so able to describe. Again, I haven’t seen it. I haven’t even read it everything. The pieces I’ve read seem different, I guess: because of the nature of television, you can wallow in things a little more. That storytelling process is just lengthened. So you have more time to solve those intricate problems, which is the beauty of television at the moment.
Freeman revealed that the tone of the series is “pretty dark,” both “figuratively and literally. It was kind of dark, actually. Kind of dark. Quite labyrinthine in terms of storytelling and the amount of people you cross paths with. “
When asked what it was like to take the character of Ross Black Panther to Secret invasionthe actor replied:
“I go wherever they tell me to go. You know what I mean? a little bit of action and a little bit of espionage and a little bit of the chatty stuff, but also a little bit of racing. Generally, we hope, it’s on the side of the good, but it’s always quite ambiguous. It’s ambiguous. And I like it because I think life is ambiguous”.
Freeman also explained that while Ross has a “very minor role” and “isn’t The Ross Show at all”, the character still has a “nice part” that is “definitely serviceable”.
I am looking forward to this series. I’ve loved most of the MCU Disney+ shows we’ve seen so far and I think this one will tell a good story.
Secret invasion will premiere on Disney+ in 2023. Can’t wait to watch it?
