With the premiere of ‘Smile’, the top-grossing horror film of 2022, director Parker Finn started revising where the whole story of eerie smiles in his history with Sosie Bacon came from. And now, IGN has revealed a small preview of ‘Laura Hasn’t Slept’, a terrifying short film where all the ideas that inspired the film come from.
Through social networks, Parker Finn presented a clip of ‘Laura hasn’t slept’, the short film that inspired ‘You smile’, played by Cailtin Stasey, who also appears in the 2022 film, alongside Law Temple. They are both in therapy, dealing with the girl’s sleep problems, when the doctor tells her she is sure what is happening is not a dream.
As Parker Finn himself points out, “Laura hasn’t slept’ premiered at South by Southwest in 2020, where Paramount “first saw it, and it was the origin that ‘Smile’ became.” The short film will be part of digital content by the time the film, which has grossed more than $200 million, goes on sale on streaming platforms on November 15.
Somehow, ‘Laura hasn’t slept’ is a simpler version of ‘You smile’, as the facts are much the same. A troubled girl who goes to a specialist to cure her curse. Some have compared the success of “Smile” to another modern horror phenomenon, such as David F. Sandberg’s “Lights Out,” which also began as a short film.

Where can you stream ‘Smile’?
After leaving behind great hits of 2022 such as ‘Nope’ or ‘The Black Phone’, ‘Smile’ will land on streaming platforms on November 15th. However, in the Mexican territory it has been confirmed that it will do so through Paramount +, although fans wanted to see it on other services such as Netflix or even Amazon Prime Video.
The possibility that at some point ‘Smile’ may reach other streaming platforms is not closed, but for the moment it will be the only way to see Parker Finn’s horror movie for those who have not been able to see it in cinemas, or for who would like to relive the experience of watching history with Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher and many others.
‘Smile’ has currently grossed more than $209 million, which is far more than the $17 million invested by Paramount to make it. So Parker Finn is already working on the first ideas for the sequel, which he himself said could be a spin-off, but we will have to wait for more details.
