After 17 years of exclusively embodying Dr. Meredith Gray, Ellen Pompeo has decided it’s time to embark on new projects. The actress announced last August that her participation would be drastically reduced for the nineteenth season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. and will no longer be the protagonist of the series. Pompeo will continue as executive producer and storyteller, but she needs time to shoot ‘Orphan’, a miniseries inspired by the true story of Natalia Grace, the young Ukrainian accused by her adoptive parents of being a sociopathic adult who wanted to kill them.
The new promo released by ABC to announce that the series begins its Christmas break until February has helped us find out when we will see Meredith leave Seattle forever. So that, In episode 7 of season 19, which debuts on February 23, 2023, we will say goodbye to the surgeon (at least for now). The chapter is titled “I Will Follow the Sun” and was written by the showrunner herself, Krista Vernoff. Regardless, we’ll still hear her voice in most introductions and hopefully she’ll be back at least for the season finale.

Probably, “Grey’s Anatomy” will justify Meredith’s absence by sending her to live in Boston, where Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) offered him a job to further research a cure for Alzheimer’s. He brings his children with him and leaves the series with only two veterans: Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr.
