‘Friends’: Matthew Perry reveals that it was he who asked the producer to say the last sentence of the series

Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing for a decade, He has just published his memoirs, entitled “Friends, lovers and such terrible things” and will go on sale in Spain on November 17 by Editorial Contraluz. In his biography, the actor opens up about his addictions, including the 15 detoxification processes he went through, but also offers lighter details and anecdotes about what happened behind the scenes of one of the most famous television series.

Among them, Perry reveals in his book that it was he who asked the producers of ‘Friends’ to say the last sentence of the series. For those who don’t remember (if possible), in the final scene of ‘Friends’, the six friends from New York leave Monica’s apartment after Monica and Chandler sell it to move to the suburbs. When they leave the iconic apartment, Rachel suggests they go out for coffee, to which Chandler replies, with his classic irony, “Where is it?”making a veiled reference to Central Perk, the group’s favorite hangout, where we see them in almost every episode.

“Before the final episode, I got it [la cocreadora y productora de ‘Friends’] Marta Kauffman aside “recalls in a passage of his book (via Deadline). “‘Nobody cares about this, just me,’ I said. ‘So, can I say the last sentence?’ So, as we all leave the apartment and Rachel suggests we go out for one last coffee, I’m the one who pulls the curtain down on ‘Friends'”.

Ross’s reaction

Of course, that last moment is the final touch for the series, a last line with which ‘Friends’ says goodbye, reminding us how well it was able to move people and make them laugh in the same scene, like the best sitcoms. In her book, Perry also recalls the reaction of one of her colleagues to the bittersweet joke, David Schwimmer, who plays Ross Geller in the series: “I love the way it looks when I say that line. It’s the perfect mix of affection and fun, exactly what ‘Friends’ has always given the world.”.
