Much appreciated by professionals to free the scalp and lengths of impurities and residues of styling products, the lightening shampoo slowly (but surely) is making its way into people’s hair routine. We tell you all about this “fresh boost” product and the best way to use it in your bathroom.
What is a clarifying shampoo?
The purpose of the clarifying shampoo is to deeply cleanse the scalp and hair.
Thomas Tuccinardi, hairdresser, colorist and representative of the OLAPLEX brand in France, explains Lose :
While the daily shampoo gently washes away excess sebum, dust, sweat and residue from hair products, the lightening shampoo goes further. It is a deep treatment that frees the scalp and the lengths of all the particles that accumulate over time such as chlorine, limestone, heavy metals and pollution.
By allowing this “reset”, the clarifying shampoo helps regulate excess sebum and fight itching and dandruff. Better oxygenated, the scalp is healthier, the hair is lighter and the roots grease less quickly. And the good news is that everyone can benefit from its benefits, “even the sensitive scalp, to which I always recommend a lightening shampoo rather than an exfoliant, which is more abrasive due to the small grains and which can irritate and scratch the skin” , adds the professional, who invites you to opt for a sulfate-free version for greater softness.
But be careful if you have colored hair: this kind of product can cause the color to fadebut all you have to do is apply a re-pigment treatment immediately afterwards for it to regain its luster.

How to use a lightening shampoo?
The lightening shampoo is so effective that we wish we could use it every day! However, it is not not made for everyday use. Thomas Tuccinardi recommends using it alternatively to your usual shampoo. He explains to Lose :
Ideally, you should wash your hair once a week. We would therefore use the clarifying shampoo every other week, so as to alternate with a more classic formula.
But in reality, many people wash their hair two or three times a week, and even every day! In this case, it’s best to keep in mind that you should only use your clarifying shampooonce a week.
A too regular use, in fact, could sensitize the scalp and give the opposite effect to that hoped for, with the appearance of irritation. Clarify, yes, search, no!
