Studio Ghibli has announced some pretty cool news on its official Twitter account that is sure to get fans talking and speculating. The legendary anime animation studio is teaming up with Lucasfilm on a Star Wars project!
There are no details as to what it is, but I’m pretty confident that Studio Ghibli will develop an anime segment for Disney + Star Wars: Visions Season 2. But wouldn’t it be great if they were actually developing a Star Wars anime feature !? Hopefully, but I certainly won’t complain if it ends up being just a short film.
Each Star Wars: Visions the short has a unique Japanese sensibility, “which in many ways aligns with the tone and spirit of the Star Wars storytelling. From the outset, the stories told in the Star Wars galaxy have included Japanese mythology and Akira Kurosawa films. among their many influences, and these new visions will further explore that cultural heritage through the unique animation style and perspective of each anime studio. “
There are so many ways that Lucasfilm and Studio Ghibli can collaborate together and I’m excited to see what this partnership will bring us!
Star Wars: Visions The second season will include shorts from various parts of the world, including the United States. (California), Chile, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain, South Africa, India, South Korea and Japan.
Executive producer James Waugh previously talked about the series, its creation and teases what’s coming for volume 2, saying:
“We have always been huge fans of anime at Lucasfilm. We were all watching a lot of anime and it became kind of a lingua franca in a way, like a shortcut between people in the animation department with the way we referenced it as we loved the medium. We’ve always talked about how we could do this and how we can honor creative development processes, which are very different in Japan. I was looking for ways to find an outlet that would allow truly amazing creators to come in and celebrate Star Wars in their own way. There was a George book [Lucas] he did where he hired all these amazing artists to make their own unique paintings Star Wars as an influence. The breadth of interesting and interesting looks of Star Wars what came out was really inspiring. None of this would fit into a typical Star Wars history, but without that structure you wouldn’t have gotten that great art. So, these ideas somehow matched up at that point and the emergence of Disney + really allowed us to experiment in a way. I think a lot about the power of Star Wars the narrative is that built-in timeline, but we asked if there was a way to try different expressions of Star Wars. So that’s where it ultimately came from.
Waugh continued to tease the future Star Wars: Visionssaid:
“We have announced that we will make it Visions volume two. The first anthology is anime because we all loved the style, but personally my intention Visions was to let it always be a wider palette, because there is so much great animation work going on in the world. There are so many interesting voices in all kinds of other mediums that are really focused on animation right now. And we really wanted it to be, in a way, a “sub-brand” that would allow different creators to come and celebrate. Star Wars from their unique cultural perspective. And so Visions the second volume is a sort of global tour of some of the most interesting animation studios globally. We have studies from South Africa, Chile, England, Ireland, France, India … and the guiding light was that we wanted their narrative to reflect what Star Wars meaning in their culture, but also a reflection of myths and stories that could only come out of their cultural context. Spring next year is currently where we’re aiming and I think it’s an absolutely beautiful anthology.
As an anime fan, I enjoyed many of the segments from the first season of Star Wars: Visionsand I can’t wait to see what these talented artists will offer for the second season.
