Lucasfilm is actively trying to develop a new one Indiana Jones TV series for Disney + and I’m not sure how to feel. I love the Indiana Jones franchise and I’m excited about the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 movie, but Disney was leading us to believe it would be the last film in the franchise as this is 100% the last time we will see Harrison Ford in the role of Jones.
According to Variety, Disney and Lucasfilm met with the writers and took part in a possible show set in the world of the globetrotting archaeologist. There are absolutely no details on what they are trying to do or whether it will be a prequel or spin-off of the film franchise, or whether it will link to the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.
Whatever it ends up being, it won’t involve Ford as Indiana Jones, so … what’s the point of that? The report also states that Disney is “currently exploring a number of options for moving the franchise forward, which could mean a series, new films, other media, or a combination of these.”
You know, I knew it was going to happen. I knew Disney would try to drain everything for what Indian Jones is worth as long as it doesn’t look like anything we love so much about the franchise. Maybe someone comes up with a good plan to keep the franchise going with a good story and a good concept, but at the moment I can’t help but feel a little salty about it. But I’m thinking of ideas I might want to see.
If this series goes on, it won’t be the first time we’ve seen an Indiana Jones series. In 1992 the show, The Chronicles of the Young Indiana Jones aired for two seasons on ABC, with four made-for-TV specials airing on The Family Channel.
The series explored the childhood and youth of the fictional character Indiana Jones and the stars Sean Patrick Flanery And Corey Carrier as the title character, with Giorgio Sala playing an older version of Jones for the bookends of most episodes, although Harrison Ford finished one episode.
What do you think of Disney looking to expand the Indiana Jones franchise with a new series for Disney + and possible additional films?
