It took a while, but finally Ryan Murphy has done with the Netflix formula and the algorithm made him his new right eye. This is why the streaming platform is very happy with the success of its most recent titles and has decided to want more.

Netflix has officially renewed “Vigilante” for a second seasonalthough it was initially conceived as a miniseries, and turned “Monster” into an anthology series after the overwhelming success of “DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”, the miniseries starring Evan Peters, based on Jeffrey Dahmer’s heinous true crimes. The streamer ordered directly two more seasons of “Monster”he will focus on “other monstrous figures who have had an impact on society”as announced by the company.
The news comes after weeks of success for both series, in particular ‘Dahmer’, which is about to cross the billion hour mark. The series, co-created (as “Vigilante”) by regular Murphy collaborator Ian Brennan, has topped the streaming audience charts since its premiere on September 21, becoming a phenomenon and surpassing “The Bridgertons” on its list of the most viewed British seriesremaining just below “Stranger Things”.
With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Netflix has been asking for more. Although it is rarer in the case of ‘Vigilante’, which initially told a closed story, also based on a real case that remained unsolved. How ownership will continue from there is not so clear, but according to Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s global television director, it will become a “universe”just like ‘Monster’, so it could also adopt the anthology format: “The consecutive strength of these two series is due to Ryan’s recognizable original voice, which created two cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the “Monster” and “Vigilante” universes”.
And more Murphys on the way
After Ryan Murphy signed a $ 300 million deal to develop projects for Netflix in 2018, the general impression was that the producer didn’t live up to his proposals. with series like “The Politician”, “Hollywood” or “Halston” getting a rather lukewarm response and quickly falling into oblivion. However, Murphy is back in a big way and it looks like he and Netflix have found a way to take advantage of the collaboration.
In addition to the new seasons of “Monster” and “Vigilante”, Murphy has other projects in the pipeline for Ted Sarandos’ company, including, a biographical miniseries on Marlene Dietrich starring Jessica Lange and an adaptation, also in the form of a miniseries, of the Broadway musical “A Chorus Line”. And even if they have been confirmed, it remains to be seen whether the new seasons of “The Politician” (which would be the last) and “Ratched” will eventually be made. All this without counting his other “universes” outside Netflix, such as “American Horror Story”, “American Crime Story”, “Feud” and “911”.
