Fans are gearing up for a new era of DC movies and TV shows with the director James Gunn and manufacturer Pietro Safran now in charge of DC Studios as co-CEO. They have a vision and a plan for DC’s future and it will be really cool to see what they are trying to do. I am quite confident that they will actually be able to manage DC properties in exciting and effective ways.
While we wait to see what exactly they are planning, the CEO of Warner Bros David Zaslav anticipated what’s coming and shared that running DC Studios is a passion project for Gunn and Safran, and not just a job:
[For them], managing DC Studios is a passion project, not just a job. James is a brilliant storyteller who has the distinction of being the first and only director to direct the film for both Marvel and DC. Peter is a prolific producer whose credits include DC’s highest-grossing film, Aquaman, as well as the whole Evocation Universe, the most successful horror franchise of all time. I couldn’t be more excited to see them join our ranks. And I’m excited about what’s to come. I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few months with James and Peter, talking about our strategy and long-term plans for the future of DC in TV, animation and film. They have a powerful vision and blueprint that will drive a more unified creative approach. [It] will allow us to realize the full value of one of the most iconic franchises in the world. They are working hard right now. “
This is a very encouraging statement, one that is sure to excite fans for DC’s future. Gunn recently celebrated the start of his new position with a funny social media post. His post features a comic panel of Clark Kent, aka Superman, working on his typewriter, noting, “I have to restrain myself … or I might absent-mindedly punch this typewriter into a twisted wreck!” Gunn titled the photo “Day One, New Job”.
I’m pretty sure one of their main goals at the moment is the next one Man of Steel film with Henry Cavill reprising the role of Superman. I have a feeling he may be meeting sooner than we think.
It was previously explained that Gunn “will focus on the creative side, while Safran will focus on the commercial and production side. Both should continue directing and producing projects, respectively.”
Gunn and Safran said in a statement, “We are honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were kids. We look forward to collaborating with the world’s most talented writers, directors and actors to create an integrated, multi-layered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn and the rest of the stable of DC characters is only matched by our commitment to the wonder of human possibilities these characters represent. We are thrilled to reinvigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the greatest, most beautiful, and greatest stories ever told. “
