Neil Gaiman criticizes Elon Musk’s changes on Twitter using “Sandman” cancellation rumors

According to one account, a Twitter user woke up wishing to ruin the day for “Sandman” fans. announcing that Netflix had confirmed the cancellation of the television series based on the stories of Neil Gaiman. However, users of the social network did not take long to realize that it was a profile that parodies other movie accounts. Neil Gaiman was quick to respond to the false rumors, criticizing Elon Musk and his new policies that support freedom of expression and could lead to simple misinformation: “Now even the parody / scam sites that make fake news will be able to buy blue badges. How fun it will be”.

Gaiman refers to the recent announcement of the businessman who bought Twitter to redesign the blue check badge system. This would imply that instead of distinguishing “official” or “high value” accounts (celebrities, public figures or official companies), Musk intends to offer all users verification for a monthly price ($ 8), with no criteria other than wanting and being able to afford to pay the premium..

“Twitter’s current system of gentlemen and peasants to know who has or doesn’t have a blue tick sucks. Power to the people! Blue for $ 8 a month.”

Musk defended this possible measure as an indictment to the “Power of the people”, in what, apparently, he considers a (liberal) democratization of privileges. The operator intends to install a premium system on the platform and that the price of the blue badge is adequate to the purchasing power of each country. What is certain is that, if the new verification badge rules were already implemented and the spoof account user had it, many more people would have believed the news of the cancellation of ‘Sandman’despite not being an official source.

What will become of ‘Sandman’?

Despite the success of Netflix’s adaptation, ranked number 10 of the most viewed streaming series in Spain in recent months, the platform has not yet released a statement on its future, leaving its fans and creators in suspense. The fact that it is the third most viewed series on the streaming service this year does not guarantee that it will be renewed for a new season. Neil Gaman replied to a fan on Twitter, who wondered how anyone could even question that there would be a continuation, and explained that the basis is that ‘Sandman’ is a very expensive series. “In order for Netflix to give us the money to do another season, we have to perform incredibly well. So yeah, we’ve been the most watched show in the world for the past couple of weeks. However, that may not be enough.”

All episodes of The first season of “Sandman” is available on Netflix.
