Although it has been just over 4 years since Ari Aster surprised everyone with ‘Hereditary’, one of the best horror films of the 21st century, it never goes out of style and with each viewing someone discovers a new secret that helps to understand the story. . One that has remained in the retina of many, and more in the minds of those who still cannot decipher its end.
Matilde
probably one of the secrets that few know ‘hereditary’, and perhaps not so much about her story, is that actress Milly Shapiro, who plays Charlie, was the one who brought Matilda to life in the Broadway musical. This curious fact wouldn’t be so relevant, were it not for the fact that in one of the scenes in Ari Aster’s film, even a blackboard chalk moves by itself, as in Danny DeVito’s classic.

Paimon
Now yeah, and in case you want to see it again, the horror movie is on HBO Max. That said, one of the the scariest secrets of ‘hereditary’hides in the demon that afflicts the family, Paimon. It is a real entity that appears in several books of black magic and which, according to one of those grimoires, confers the “power to influence and control others, cause extreme anger, and loud lights or noises usually activate it.”
The numbers
Probably if you had seen ‘hereditary’at the cinema, or on a high-quality screen, have you noticed that there is a series of numbers in the rooms of each of the family members. What seem like weird words that you don’t notice at first glance are actually spells, which were probably placed by the grandmother, which could have something to do with Paimon’s return.
The curse and the deaths
The ritual of carrying Paimon takes too many years to come true. This is something Grandma knew, and we find out when Annie reveals that her brother took his own life and, in her farewell note, says that their mother had tried to put people inside him. Later, the character of Toni Collette tries the same, and even Charlie’s death seems not to have been a coincidence, because on the pole where her head is torn off is the symbol of Paimon.
Annie is a sleepwalker
In the plot of ‘Hereditary’, one of the aspects that is vaguely explained is the sleepwalking of Annie, who on one occasion almost managed to set fire to her children Peter and Charlie. It is later revealed that the protagonist was about to abort her firstborn, but her mother prevented it, as she needed it for her ritual. But Annie’s actions in her sleep seem to wake her up on the verge of committing the crime, as if she were fighting something bigger.
The end
There are very few seconds on the screen, however, when Annie finds her mother’s spellbook, it can be read that in order for Paimon to return, the host must be a weak man to control him. So, once the end of “Hereditary” comes and Peter becomes the yellow king, you realize that all that has happened is making the boy more vulnerable.
