Hugh Jackman reveals what convinced him to return to playing Wolverine in DEADPOOL 3 and what we can expect from the character

Fans have been super excited ever since it was revealed Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. This will be Deadpool’s first film in the MCU and will be Jackman’s first return to the role since his “retirement” of the character. We had wanted to see this fight for years, but Jackman was adamant about never playing X-Man again.

Jackman has now talked about what made him change his mind and what brought him back in a recent interview with Variety. He said everything changed in 2016 when he went to see Dead Pool:

“I went to a screening of ‘Deadpool’. I was in 20 minutes and I was like, ‘Ah, damn!’ All I kept seeing in my head was “48 Hours” with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. So it’s been brewing for a long time. It took me longer to get here. “

At the end of August, on a trip to the sea with his family, he finally made the decision. He called Reynolds, who had been begging “every day” for a Wolverine-Deadpool movie. “I think, actually, he gave up,” Jackman said. “I think it was a big shock to him. There was a huge pause, and then he said, ‘I can’t believe the timing of this.’ “Reynolds was about to meet with the president of Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige from Deadpool 3. With Jackman inside, the rest is comic book history.

As for what we can expect from Jackman’s character, the actor said AP Entertainment (via CB):

“I can tell you that I will have the time of my life. I can tell you that I have started over at the gym and eat a lot, and I feel bad for the cast of The Music Man with the amount of protein shakes I am drinking.

“It’s a lot of fun. It’s been five years and I never thought I’d come back. And I’m really, really excited to be back. I know a little about the script but I won’t let you know.”

The actor then answered the question if Deadpool 3 will introduce a more angry or kinder Logan. “There is no choice. He’s definitely more angry, grumpy, and will do lots of free shots at Ryan Reynolds, let me tell you” Jackman teased, before ending with “Physically, this is it.”

It is not clear what the new film will be about. It won’t even necessarily be named Deadpool 3. When asked by Variety what he thought of the title, Jackman joked, “Well, not in my heart. I’m pretty sure Wolverine wouldn’t like that title.”

Whatever ends up being called, we are thrilled! Deadpool 3 will be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.
