Executive producer Greg Berlanti has developed a Green Lantern series for HBO Max for a while now and it looks like things are going to take a little longer. It was recently revealed that the project, which has been in the works since 2019, will shift gears and be redeveloped with a whole new vision in mind.

Since the start of the project, for some reason, the studio hasn’t allowed the show to use John Stewart’s version of Green Lantern. So, the original plan was for the series to revolve around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott and they had already cast cast Finn Wittrock (Rated) And Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone) in those roles.

Well, things have changed and now the series will revolve around John Stewart, who is one of the best and most popular versions of Green Lantern. So, this is great news for the fans!

According to THR, Seth Grahame-Smith, who signed on as a screenwriter and showrunner a year after the Green Lantern announcement, ended up leaving the project on his terms after all the regime changes at HBO Max, his parent company, producers Warner Bros. Television and now at DC Comics. With all these changes, it seems like it would have been a nightmare to get any job done.

It is explained that “the decision to reorient the Green Lantern comes at a crucial time for DC. Sources say John Stewart’s character was out of the question for producers who envisioned the show as centering around the first Green Lantern, the openly gay Alan Scott and Guy Gardner, as well as a “multiplicity of other Lanterns – from comic book favorites to never again. – heroes seen before. ‘ With the recent release of DC Comics top-of-the-range Walter Hamada, the decision was made to restart and build the show around John Stewart, the character who first appeared in the early 1970s and was modeled after Sidney Poitier. .

It is also noted in the report that this creative review of Green Lantern has nothing to do with the news James Gunn And Pietro Safran taking creative control over DC Studios. All of this was in the works prior to the announcement and their involvement.

When HBO Max initially announced plans for Green Lantern, Berlanti described it as the “greatest DC show ever made,” with plans for the series to go to space. It was also supposed to be the most expensive show ever made by DC and easily the biggest for HBO Max with an estimated budget in the order of $ 120 million.

It is now reported that the show’s budget is expected to be significantly lower than HBO Max’s David ZaslavWarner Bros. Discovery combined, is focusing on the proper sizing of its various assets, and they don’t want to spend more money than they should.
