It is not for nothing that it is said that stories based on real events are the ones that have the most impact, since they speak of the human being’s ability to feel empathy for what the protagonist is going through. On HBO Max you can find a drama based on the autobiography of Saroo Brierley, a boy lost on a train, away from his family for 25 years, until he decided to return to find them.

The story of Saroo was adapted in ‘Lion’, a film based on true events on HBO Max, directed by Garth Davis and starring Dev Patel, Sunny Pawar, Rooney Mara, David Wenman, Nicoloe Kidman and Divian Ladwa. The plot is based on Saroo Brierley’s autobiography, entitled “A Long Way Home”, or as it is also known in Spanish, “A Fireplace at Home”.

In 2010, ‘Lion’ world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, with a screenplay by Luke Davies and Garth Davis himself, as well as photography by Greig Fraser, who was responsible for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune”, and Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”. And finally Volker Bertelmann and Dustin O’Halloran were the ones who composed the original soundtrack of the film.

Upon release, ‘Lion’ got mixed reviews from critics in the TIFF. But now, years later, this true event based movie has an 86% approval rating, based on 209 reviews, and an average rating of 7.3 out of 10, on Rotten Tomatoes. Which means it’s a remarkable story above the rest.

Additionally, “Lion” was nominated for Oscars in major categories such as Best Picture, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Score and Photography, as well as the 2016 Golden Globes. Unfortunately, it has not won in any of the awards and their categories, but the story is one that is well remembered by those who have already seen it.

What is the story of the movie ‘Lion’ about?

Now yes, going to the basics, ‘Lion’ is about Saroo Brierley, a 5 year old boy who was playing with his brother in a train station one day. The little boy ends up lost, and on the way to Calcutta, when he arrives there, it is impossible for him to go home, besides he doesn’t speak Bengali, which makes it even more difficult to ask for help and communicate to indicate that he is lost.

Saroo is later adopted by an Australian couple who take him to live in Tasmania, where he spends the next 20 years of his life. There, he begins to form new relationships, learn the language, meet people and find a job, but not a single day in his life can stop thinking about his biological family and what they would be through from that day when he was lost.

But 25 years after leaving his home in Khandwa, Saroo remembers, with the help of Google Earth, some details of that day he boarded the train, being able to go back to his biological family’s home, and see his face once again. of his brother, sister and mother.
