Dwayne Johnson isn’t the only one to become a superhero in “Black Adam”. Jaume Collet-Serra’s film also introduces the Justice Society, a lesser-known team than the Justice League, but which existed in the comics much earlier.. They first appeared in ‘All Star Comics’ in 1940, by Sheldon Mayer and Gardner Fox. In ‘Black Adam’ we meet Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), the leader, Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), a young woman able to control the wind through nanobots implanted in her body, Atombreaker (Noah Centineo), grandson of the original Atombreaker and with the same ability to become a giant, and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), who thanks to his helmet can control magic and see the future. All of them are sent by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) to Kahndaq to stop Teth Adam from taking justice for himself.
The film gives us a little glimpse of each of these characters, but that’s the Black Adam show. Aldis Hodge and Quintessa Swindell told us in our interview with them that the script went a little deeper into their characters, but it was impossible to fit everything into the final cut: “We had to cut parts so we didn’t have a four hour movie, although I wouldn’t have minded if we did!” says Hodge. His co-star believes this could play in his favor for a possible return to the franchise in the future: “What they did is lay the groundwork and let the audience wonder if there’s more to it, which is great for us.”.
Is the Justice Society part of that new era for DC that The Rock is selling so much? Noah Centineo jokes that the actor and producer told them absolutely everything about his plans: “He told us EVERYTHING! We know everything that’s going to happen in the next twenty years but we’re not going to say ANYTHING. We don’t really know anything, they haven’t told us. What I can say, and I think I can speak for both of us, is that we had a lot of fun shooting the film and gave it our all. It will be an honor to do more if the fans want us to do them”. A film about the origins of your group, to fill in the gaps? “That would be really great!” exclaimed Centineo excitedly.

Between Black Adam and the Justice Society we will find Adrianna Tomaz, Sarah Shahi’s character. In the film, she is an archaeologist from Kahndaq who wakes Teth Adam to help free her people from the tyranny of Intergang, a band of mercenaries who have subjugated the people of this fictional place in the Middle East. Adrianna is tired of waiting for superheroes to come and help them. Her character also has a long history in the comics, even having powers and marrying Black Adam. The actress, known for “Sexo / Vida”, would be absolutely willing to explore those facets of her character: “I’m aware of who Adrianna is in the comics and what she becomes, and that would be great. There is nothing at the moment, but if this idea reaches the ears of those who have to reach it, I would like to have that opportunityd “.
A very real conflict
The whole ongoing conflict in Kahndaq unfortunately recalls much more real conflicts in the Middle East, such as the revolution that is happening right now in the streets of Iran, led by the country’s women. It is a situation that touches Sarah Shahi particularly closely: “I am Persian and my mother participated in the first protests forty years ago, when the regime was changing. One of the reasons I’m sitting here is her courage, because she ran away in the middle of the night. She didn’t want that life for her daughter of hers. My DNA moves and comes alive when I can interpret things like that and I can support them in any way I can, and help the women there, because what’s going on is terrible. It is an honor to play Adrianna, a woman struggling for change”. Quintessa Swindell praises the possibility that a film the size of “Black Adam” could generate important conversations: “The fact of making this film without being afraid to talk about it, especially with a film of this magnitude, is unique. This passion pushed us to do it well, so that people would come out of the cinema and want to talk about it. Even now with that. which is happening in Iran. It is a very representative film “.
“Black Adam” is already in the halls.
