The post-apocalyptic genre is where you can find stories of all kinds, from horror, to action, to fantasy. But rarely a mixture of science fiction and drama, as is this film based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, about a father and his son, trying to survive in a world devastated by a cataclysm, and which you can see on HBO Max.
With Viggo Mortensen, famous for playing Aragorn in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Kodi Smit-McPhee from Netflix’s “The Hound”, Oscar winner Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, in the lead role in “Memento”, “Street’ and this science fiction drama film on HBO of which we speak.
The story of ‘Street’ is directed by John Hillcoat, who has worked on productions such as “The Preposition”, some episodes of “Black Mirror” and “Triple 9” for Netflix. In addition, she adapts the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy, the same author of another book brought to the big screen by the Coen brothers, such as ‘No Country for Old Man’.
In its first year, 2009, ‘La Carretera’ won in the Official Film Section of the Venice Film Festival, as well as several BAFTa and Critics Choice Award nominations. In addition, for several critics he was one of the best apocalyptic science fiction movieswith an “obsessive, heartbreaking and powerful” story, as The Guardian’s Xan Brooks wrote.
What is the story of ‘The Road’ about?
But to go back to the story, ‘La Carretera’ is about a father, whose name is unknown, and his son, who try to survive in a wasteland that the whole world has become, following a cataclysm of no one. he really knows what caused it. We only see that the Earth has been plunged into a perpetual winter and the remaining humans are fighting for food and safety.
The story of “La Carretera” has served many theories on how the world has remained as it is, some claim that it was a zombie virus, other nuclear attacks and even those who assure that it was the fault of man and time . Throughout the journey of the father and the baby there are some nightmares, which speak of the past and what happened to the mother, which led them to start their journey across the coast in search of food.
The world of “The Road” is hostile, hopeless and where there is nothing left to hold on to. That’s why its protagonists go into a spiral more and more to find something that keeps them going, but things are not easy, which often leads them to consider the worst exits, but which can be the fastest.
