With Walter Hamada’s departure from DC Films, the company began hinting at what lies ahead for the DCEU and its DC superhero movies and series. However, given the good news, one of the many projects had to be changed, and it is ‘Zatanna’, a film that would be released exclusively through HBO Max.
Amid a flurry of information about the future of DC Films, things seemed to be taking a turn for the worse with the cancellation of Leslie Grace and Brendan Fraser’s “Batgirl” for HBO Max. Fan uncertainty has begun to grow, until now. , THR said DC is preparing “The Flash 2”, “Man of Steel 2”, other films in the “The Batman” universe and a long-term plan that will end in the confrontation between Black Adam and Superman.
In a lengthy report, THR confirmed that “Zatanna’ will not premiere on HBO MaxThis comes at a time when the report mentions all of Warner’s plans for the future of DC Comics, its cinematic universe and independent films. In addition to this project, JJ Abrahms’ “Constantine” story was also scrapped for posting on the platform.
Last June, the rumors claimed it Dua Lipa could be the star of ‘Zatanna’, however, this has not been confirmed. But it should be made clear that the fact that it doesn’t reach HBO Max doesn’t mean the film is canceled, but that the production is looking for other streaming platforms interested in continuing it, and possibly having the premiere.
Where could the film ‘Zatanna’ be distributed?
The film of ‘Zatanna’ does not have a preview seat at the momentand it is not known if Netflix, Amazon Prime or some other platform are interested in bringing it into their catalog. Writer and director Emerald Fennel was the only one connected to the project, as she would write the plot, but it was not mentioned whether the “Promising Young Woman” director will continue to work on the story.
With “Zatanna” and the “Constantine” series having received announcements with some excitement, Warner Bros. Discovery now seems to prioritize what’s to come with the DC Extended Universe, as well as the worldwide expansion of “The Batman”, and the second part of “Joker” with Lady Gaga, which will be released until 2024.
For now, “Black Adam” is the premiere closest to the company and Dwayne Johnson assures it will be the start of the first phase of the UEDC. So now it remains to be seen whether Walter Hamada’s departure will impact the company’s future and who will be in charge of overseeing all DC productions.
