silent Hill artistic director of the video game Masahiro Ito recently released some interesting behind-the-scenes information about the inspiration behind the terrifying Pyramid Head Silent Hill 2. It turns out that the background of the nightmare creature was inspired Mel Gibson’S Brave Heart.
According to Ito, the background of Pyramid Head’s executioner came from the scene he was in Brave Heart where William Wallace is executed, the part where he utters that loud “Freedom!” scream. He explained:
“As for Pyramid Head, the background setting ‘like the executioner in town’ was definitely inspired by the background character from Braveheart. [B]but the background “as the character opposing James” was inspired by this quote from Louis from Jacob’s Ladder “.
He then went on to show some artwork from when he was a student that inspired Pyramid Head’s look and said:
“After designing P-Head based on the first image in this tweet, I started thinking about the background. I remembered the movie / that person putting a bag on their head and then I looked for the person in the books. Eventually I came up with the idea of an executioner from the old city. “
As a longtime fan of the Silent Hill franchise, I just wanted to share that little bit of information because I thought it was pretty cool!
