‘Percy Jackson’: Rick Riordan announces the sixth novel in the saga, which arrives 8 years after the last

Rick Riordan brings new and succulent news for fans of his saga, and that’s it the writer has announced the release of his sixth novel: ‘Percy Jackson and the chalice of the gods’. It will arrive in bookstores on September 26, 2023. The news came through an article published by Publishers Weekly and the information was confirmed by Riordan in an entry on his official blog.

Riordan hasn’t written a whole novel from Percy Jackson’s first-person perspective since The Last Olympian of 2009. He went on to write about Percy’s world in his later works, but he didn’t just focus on his plot, for what readers had been asking for something like “Percy Jackson 6” for a while, and Finally, the writer listened to his wishes and set to work for the book to be released next year, also promoting the planned Disney + series on the saga.

It was 2022 when, a few months ago, Riordan was encouraged to write “Percy Jackson and the Goblet of the Gods”, during a conversation he had with Disney about the start of filming for the series. As the writer comments on his blog, Disney told him: “Hey Rick, what can we post that will help us spark new interest in Percy when the TV series comes out?”. Riordan says they talked about various things, but in the end they settled on something that everyone liked, some kind of “gratitude” to his fans for accompanying him for so many years. Then, he presented them with the draft he was working on, the one for the future novel, “The Chalice of the Gods”, and went to work.

The plot of this novel will be centered around Percy’s admission to college, it sounds simple, but you’ll soon find out it’s not. The University of New Rome requires letters of recommendation from three gods, which means that Percy has to go through several missions to obtain these letters. His first mission will be to find the chalice of Ganymede, the cupbearer of the Olympians, who has lost his most precious object. Percy, Annabeth and Grover must retrieve the goblet before a mortal finds and drinks it, gaining immortality and causing disaster. The three friends’ adventure takes place almost entirely in New York City.

According to Riordan: “2023 is shaping up to be a great year in the Percy Jackson universe!” And it is that a year marked by these stories awaits us. In spring will come ‘The sun and the star’, a novel within the saga of the writer in collaboration with Mark Oshiro. “Percy Jackson and the Goblet of the Gods” will be released in the fall and the Disney + series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will also arrive. Without a doubt, 2023 will be a big year for Percy and his fans, who will be able to enjoy two new novels and a television series about their favorite adventures.
